Our Story

Lilly Baker was strapped to a pair of skis as soon as she could walk and quickly developed a passion for the sport. Wanting to connect with other shredders at Berkeley High, Lilly founded Go Ahead Shred in 2016. During the first two seasons, the club hosted three trips to Tahoe that brought 65 students to the snow.

There was something missing, however. The only students who attended the trips were those who could afford the high costs of skiing and snowboarding.

In 2017, Go Ahead Shred established a partnership with SkiDUCK, a Tahoe-based non-profit dedicated to enriching the lives of disadvantaged and financially underprivileged youth by teaching and sharing the joys of skiing and snowboarding. During the 2017-2018 season, 20 BHS students received a free trip through Go Ahead Shred.

The club is now run by Matilda Hallowell, and has 50 members and counting and organizes $25 trips for low-income students, as well as paid trips that are available to all BHS students.
